Factors for Choosing a Laboratory Freezer
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

Defined Tag:

A laboratory freezer is used not only in a laboratory but also in many other medical and scientific locations. The freezer has several different uses but it most commonly used to store laboratory materials, pharmaceutical products, and reagents. Since different materials require different temperature levels, a laboratory freezer comes with thermostat controls. This way the freezer is able to maintain the temperatures that are necessary for the materials that are being held inside.

Some versions of the laboratory freezer come with a system that will send an alert if the temperature inside the freezer fluctuates within a certain range. This is helpful because the operator needs to know if the materials inside the freezer fall below a certain temperature or if they rise above a certain temperature. Since the freezer may sometimes be located in a high noise area, there are both visual and audible alerts. These alerts are extremely helpful.

A laboratory freezer is typically manufactured in one of three kinds of materials. These materials are stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanized steel.

When selecting a freezer there are several different specifications that should be kept in mind. The capacity of the freezer is the total amount that the freezer can store. Usually capacity is measured in either liters or cubic feet or both. The temperature range is also important. The range of temperature is the minimum and maximum temperature the freezer is able to maintain. The dimensions are also of importance. This includes both the external dimensions and internal dimensions of the laboratory freezer. It is important to know how much space the freezer will require along with the amount of space that is allowed inside the freezer.

Choosing a laboratory freezer for your laboratory, pharmacy, clinic, or other establishment is not a difficult process. Make sure that you fully understand the specifications of the freezer before making a final purchase.
